Depression can often interfere with one's everyday life and ability to complete self-care tasks. This may start to affect hygiene and quality of life over time, so here are some tips for those affected by depression.
1. Think in terms of good, better, and best. Always strive for the best, but realize that sometimes it is OK to settle for good. For example, cooking a fresh, healthy meal is best, but if microwaving a frozen meal feels like the most you can do, then that is good.
2. If doing the dishes seems overwhelming, consider using paper plates or other disposable kitchenware.
3. Use a pill container that tells you the last time it was opened if tracking when you took medication last seems like too much.
4. Use a timer for basic tasks like cleaning. This sets a clear goal as to when your task ends to make it less overwhelming.
5. Use the drive-through, curbside pick-up, or delivery options to get groceries or medication as an alternative to walking into the store if that is discouraging.
6. Use ride share to get to a destination if driving is too much.
7. Forezen fruits often take less time and seem less overwhelming to prepare than fresh fruits.
8. Use a toaster oven, which is smaller and less daunting than an oven, to prepare quick meals.
9. Use electrolyte powders if drinking plain water is hard. These add nutrients and can often ease the bland taste of water.
10. Use power bricks if the thought of organizing charging wires is too much.
11. Keep extras and spares if finding lost items is too overwhelming.
12. Use disposable cleaning items like baby wipes and paper towels to offset the need to clean towels after cleaning yourself or your house.
13. Use AI to help with daily tasks. AI can be a very helpful tool for planning your day, figuring out what to cook, or planning a vacation.
